For the past little while, I’ve been painting in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. There’s something magical about waking up each day to warm ocean air, wandering through cobblestone streets, and feeling the creative pulse of a town that seems to breathe art.
One of the biggest gifts of my time here has been the opportunity to paint at Galería Dante, the largest and most respected gallery in town. I’ve been working there almost like a resident artist, and none of it would have happened without Claire and Gena, the amazing women who run the gallery. Their support, kindness, and belief in my work have meant the world to me, and I’m endlessly grateful to them.
Painting at the gallery has been a completely different experience from working at home. Instead of spending my days tucked away in a quiet room, I get to meet people from all over the world — travelers, collectors, fellow artists, curious wanderers — and share conversations, stories, and sometimes even see the spark of interest that leads to a new home for one of my pieces. It’s energizing in a way that studio solitude simply isn’t.
Creatively, Puerto Vallarta has been a playground. I’ve found myself inspired to paint everything from everyday Mexican street scenes to sun-soaked beach moments. With the city being such a popular destination — especially with a large expat community — art is everywhere. The town is dotted with galleries, from small independent spaces to established institutions, each adding its own flavor to the artistic landscape. It feels like the perfect place for someone like me to grow, experiment, and connect.
And, of course, I can’t ignore one particularly fun perk: PV is famously welcoming to gay visitors. Which means there is no shortage of gorgeous men on the beaches — and yes, I absolutely indulge in painting those perfect abs, confident poses, and all the delicious details that make capturing the male form so enjoyable. Sometimes art is serious… and sometimes it’s just pure, joyful appreciation. 😄
All in all, this chapter in Puerto Vallarta has felt like a warm embrace — creative, vibrant, and full of possibility. I’m excited to keep painting, keep exploring, and see where this colorful journey takes me next.
Colors of Cuba, the Lates Inspiration
A collection of small, colorful paintings celebrating the charm of Cuban classic cars—each one a bright, unique snapshot of Havana’s timeless streets.
Watch the space, more subject matter to come from Cuba.
Vintage Verde
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19")
An emerald Oldsmobile, carrying the quiet poetry of Cuba’s streets.
Pontiac in Paradise
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19")
These old, heavy American cars glide through Havana like moving pieces of history, their faded colors glowing under the Caribbean sun. Each one carries the heartbeat of the island—stories of resilience, rhythm, and time—rolling slowly along quiet streets where the past is never far away.
Havana Chevrolet, Cuba Style
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19"
Streets are full of people in Havana, not cars. The grumbling pastel colored houses add to the perfect combo. time has stopped here.
Havana's Golden Buick
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19")
Little warm up work, a mini painting of an old Buick Special classic car in Cuba. 24 cm x 38 cm. ( 11” x 15”) The beauty of painting cars from Cuba is that the actual cars are so modified and have all sorts of mixed parts from other cars that the paintings don’t need to perfect. They can be little off and wonky too because it reflects perfectly the feeling of “happy-go-lucky”, just like it feels on the road in Cuba.
Pink Cadillac the Classic
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19")
A real classic, and they still exist and thrive in Cuba!
Cuban Shared Taxis
35cm x 48cm (14" x 19")
Cuban Shared Taxis: An Experience Worth Its Weight in Gold 🇨🇺🚖✨
In Cuba, shared taxis aren’t just transportation — they’re an adventure. You never really know if there’s a car heading to your destination… or if the driver is waiting for a few more passengers (you might even wait a couple of days 😅).
But that’s part of the charm.
Travel in Cuba isn’t just about places… it’s about the stories you collect along the way.
